Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui Fudosan”) has made an investment in Free Standard Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; “Free Standard”), the provider of the recommerce platform Retailor, through Mitsui Fudosan & Innovation Fund (“& Innovation Fund”), a corporate venture capital fund managed by Global Brain Corporation (“Global Brain”).

Free Standard operates under the mission of creating a new free standard of consumption. The company develops and provides Retailor, a platform that enables brands to easily launch their own recommerce business (resale of pre-owned goods). It provides an end-to-end solution for recommerce operations, covering everything from buyback and inspection to cleaning, photography, storage, and shipping. In addition to the brands’ physical stores and e-commerce sites, items are sold through ReLIKE—Japan’s first curated shop specializing in brand-certified pre-owned goods—operated by Free Standard through both physical stores and an e-commerce site. Unlike conventional secondary market platforms (such as flea market apps), Retailor allows for the buyback and sale of brand-official pre-owned goods. This creates new customer touchpoints without compromising brand value, providing safe and high-quality experience for both sellers and buyers. As the retail and fashion industries face an urgent need to shift away from mass production/consumption toward sustainability, Free Standard addresses these challenges through technology and its unique logistics.

Mitsui Fudosan made this investment decision, as it recognizes that the recommerce platform Retailor enables a new retail model of distributing pre-owned goods through the brand’s official channel and contributes to sustainable consumption in society. Recommerce―a business model where brands and manufacturers directly manage secondary distribution―is playing an increasingly important role in the reuse market, which has been growing in recent years. Through this investment, Mitsui Fudosan will explore the potential for business co-creation that will promote sustainable consumer behavior, including circular retail and innovative purchase experiences.
