Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (Mitsui Fudosan) has invested in Axelspace Holdings (Axelspace), a developer of microsatellite business, through 31VENTURES – Global Brain – Growth I Project (31VENTURES), the JPY 30 billion venture investment project jointly managed with Global Brain Corporation (Global Brain), mainly targeting growth stage startups. 31VENTURES previously invested in Axelspace in December 2018 and May 2021.

Since its establishment in 2008, Axelspace has been developing its space business utilizing microsatellites, and has developed, launched, and operated nine commercial satellites, including one for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Currently, in addition to the “AxelGlobe” business, a unique earth observation service that Axelspace has been working on since 2015, the company is conducting research and development to realize an innovative one-stop service that provides everything from desktop research to design and manufacturing, launch, and on-orbit operation of micro satellites as part of the “AxelLiner” business announced in 2022. Axelspace plans to launch a demonstration satellite in 2024 for “AxelLiner.”

Since the late 1990s, Mitsui Fudosan has been promoting the “Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan” in unison with the private sector, public sector, and local community, and has identified “industry creation” as a key message to support business growth from an urban development perspective. In 2023, Mitsui Fudosan opened X-NIHONBASHI BASE, which serves as a base for open innovation in the space industry, and Cross U, an open platform for space industry vitalization, started its activities. Mitsui Fudosan is building the foundation for space industry development and open innovation.

Mitsui Fudosan has had a long history of collaboration with Axelspace, from supporting the relocation and expansion of their office in 2015 to investment in the Series B and C round. Through this investment, Mitsui Fudosan will continue to support Axelspace to realize the next generation infrastructure for the space industry and to become a leading company in the microsatellite industry.
